The next step in our diabolical plan is to have the house staged beautifully for selling. We have hired a staging company called Fresh Accents. The designer we are working with is named Valerie Rebesque. She and her partner are both very creative and professional women who I have a lot of faith in . They will surely make our house a show-piece . I must say that I really enjoy decorating and consider myself pretty good at it (some may disagree, too bad!) , at least good at making my home look how” I” like it to look. I have my own particular style and I really enjoy creating an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming as well as expressing myself in my home. When someone comes into my house it is an invitation to know me better. I really get a lot of joy out of making my home an expression of me. So, having someone else come in and decorate my home will be a tiny bit strange, to put it mildly. I think it will be really important for the decor of our home to appeal to the masses and not just to me. We want as many potential buyers as possible to walk into our home and be able to envision themselves living in the space. I know how to decorate for myself but It will be best for a neutral person to get in here and set the stage that will appeal to lots of people.
So, the stagers are scheduled to do their magic on March 18. The painting contractors are starting the exterior painting tomorrow, 2/23. We are planning to move into a temporary living situation, with Kitty’s in tow, March 15 . I think I found a good option for us and today we are going to take a look at it. Yesterday we went to check out Extended Stay America, they are pet friendly and they have locations that are not too inconvenient to get me to work in the mornings. But they were pretty small rooms and with the cats , yikes! It brought back memories of living in our cottage but even smaller. We even checked out the deluxe room but , Not so good. So I remembered my friend Judith Content told me about a web-sight called Airbnb . Her daughter uses it to rent out a little attached apartment she has at the house she owns in Portland. Apparently they have short term rentals in quant places so I gave it a look and found a very cute place for quite a bit cheaper. It’s a one bedroom apartment in Santa Clara (between El Camino and Homestead). The price ends up being about $88.00 per night instead of $132.00 per night. So I got ahold of the landlord to set up a time today ( ( Monday) to check it out. She and I got to talking ( as usual with me) and she asked if I would like to see the unit this afternoon. So off we go to check it out, cross your fingers! ……And we’re back! The apartment was nice. Very roomy, great location, clean and I really like the landlady, Emey. She is very flexible about how long we stay there because she totally understands how unpredictable selling a house can be. So we can check that off our list, check, we have a place to move to beginning March 15 . This is a Friday and the stagers begin on Monday so this gives us a couple days to get settled with the cats and not feel too rushed. Given the fact that we have a few more weeks to go, things could still change. The most important thing to make all go smooth is an open mind and a willingness to roll with unexpected changes. Time will tell!
