Commercialism is everywhere…

Feliz Navidad?? in Septmember! Geesh! I wasn’t expecting this here in Panama. That goes to show ya, commercialism isn’t only in the U.S., noooooo it’s just a fact of life everywhere. And here they skip right over Halloween too! Man! It seemed like every year the department stores in the States began to promote the excessive consumption of all things Christmas earlier and earlier every year . But I saw things in the little Tienda’s here in Boquete as early as August. Yesterday, while we were in David for Scott’s Dr. appt we needed to pick up a few things at Conway (this is Panama’s version of Target) and when we got off the escalator upstairs in the housewares department I was shocked to see CHRISTMAS EVERYWHERE! Holy crap! What happened to Halloween? Oh well, celebrations are great and I will be needing to re-stock my christmas decoration stash so I’ll be excessively consuming right along with the best of em’! LOL! (Scott says,”NOOOO!”)

Life is Good! But it's time for a change, and more adventure! I'd like to share the whole experience of preparing then actually making a reality of expatriating, and moving to a new country. It's an exciting, and slightly scary move full of possibility . I'm looking forward to learning a new language and making new connections with the people who share our spirit of adventure. This blog is my way of continuing my connection with my friends and family in the States. Sooooo here it goes! :)

  1. Scott needs to be thankful it’s Christmas stuff you are wanting to stock up on and not Holliween πŸ™‚ Then he might has a good reason to say NOOOOOOO! πŸ™‚ That would or could be extremely expensive πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Know what I mean Jelly Bean πŸ™‚

  2. Hey, it ain’t just Panama that has this affliction. I was in Costco this weekend and there was plenty of Christmas stuff, but no Halloween decor in sight! I think they saw you left the country and just gave up….

  3. I know, I saw that too! Christmas here is nuts, and don’t even try to get in the parking lot of the stores around Christmas. But, if you are lucky you will have street parties complete with music and fireworks, and that is fun. My friends were very surprised to learn that I haven’t played the Christmas game in years, and my friends and family still speak to me πŸ˜€ I refuse to buy gifts just because the calendar says it’s time to go shopping, and most of it is stuff people don’t need bought by people who can’t afford it. Bah humbug LOL

  4. Hmmm, haven’t seen any Christmas stuff here yet. Maybe “Christmas in August” has something to do with Decimo being given out in the same month?
